It seems like age really matters where my son is concerned. He's 15 months old now, but when I look at babies younger than him I think "he's not that much older" or "that wasn't very long ago" or "they are pretty close in age". However, when I see babies that are older than him, I think "wow, there is such a difference between them" or "I can't believe he'll be doing that in X number of months".
I guess it's just funny when I think about it that a baby that's 6 months younger doesn't seem that different, but if the baby's 6 months older...woah! Then I figure the mother of the younger baby probably sees my son as quite a bit older. Maybe I just notice this more because I only have one child. Or maybe none of this makes any sense to anyone but me.

When my daughter was a newborn I'd read the parenting boards and think anyone with 3 year olds... man their kids must be old! And now I have a 3 year old and next time I blink she'll be 27!
But you're right too, I know some bloggers who have kids 2 months older than my son and they seem SO much older, but if I go back to read their entries when their kids were his current age, they seem right on target.
Age is so relative. At this age even 3 weeks can make a huge difference. What's so funny is that the 9 month olds that are currently "too young" to play with my girls (17 months) will be in the same kindergarten class as them. And the 5 year old that's too big for them now could be the guy one of them marries. (My DH is 5 years older than me.)
The "older" babies always seem way older to me too. Probably because they're in stages I haven't experienced yet while a baby 6 months younger is something I still remember. What you said completely makes sense to me. Of course, we could BOTH just be crazy...
Yup. And sometimes now I look at older babies nursing and think, wow, they're so big to be still nursing! and then I remember that I nursed Gillian until she was walking. Oh yeah. It didn't seem like she was too big when it was ME. :)
