Upcoming birthday decisions

Help me! I don't know what to do for Zachariah's birthday. Well, I know what to do. We'll invite our families over for a little party. Zac will be the only kid here, so he'll get all the attention. He's used to that, because that's the way it is in our family. There aren't any other kids around, and none of the friends we actually hang out with have kids. Anyway, he doesn't know different, so that's the party we'll have for him.

Mostly I'm looking for ideas for a theme of sorts, especially for a cake. Last year I went with Winnie the Pooh. His nursery is decorated in Pooh, and he had many Pooh things as a baby. Now my baby is growing up. He'll be 2 in less than a month. I'd love to do something that he loves, but he likes many different things. Some are non-commercial, and he's started watching a few TV shows that he seems to like. So those are some ideas to start with, but nothing sticks out as a particular favorite.

Here are some things he likes: cars, trucks, trains, planes, tractors, animals, books, Pooh (still, but I'm steering away from that since we did it already), Elmo, Cookie Monster, Wonder Pets ("Eeem gurk" is how "team work" from the show comes out. Adorable, I'll have to get it on video sometime.), Dora, Diego (but not as much as Dora), Thomas (but he likes Percy the best), and that's all I can think of right now.

So, any helpful suggestions. If I can just decide on what to do, I'm sure it will be no problem making the cake (or perhaps cupcakes). I just can't make up my mind. HELP!

For L's 2nd birthday I made her a Dora cake.. there's all the character pans you can buy at a party store. My sister did Elmo once for her kids. If you don't want to do characters you could do a flat cake w/roads and/or construction stuff (piles of chocolate dirt and marshmallow rocks or something?) with cars on the roads and stuff? I've seen that done with volcanos and dinosaurs too.

But then once D turned 2 it's just a normal party and I make cupcakes, no themes, lol.

I vote for a tractor/farm theme. Maybe you could have the cake decorated like a barnyard and then have little plastic farm animals and tractors decorating the cake and then give them to him when the cake is eaten?

Does he like legos? I have the cutest lego cake instructions.

I think the farm theme is cute.

For Darsie's first birthday we did a cowgirl theme that was adorable. You could (obviously) change it to cowboys.

I'm in total awe of your ability to make a "theme" cake ("Never again" was my vow a few years ago). I love the farm/tractor idea with the plastic animals on top, but the thought of a Lego cake sounds really interesting, too.

Ok, I can't come here anymore, until that marshmallow brownie is off of your front page. I've been craving s'mores for a week now!!

Hub made a Diego mountain cake all by himself for ED's birthday last month. It was really cool!

being that I just planned an adult birthday party (classic hollywood) and a child party- and have NO CLUE what to plan for Gen's birthday- I will let all of the other clever people help you.
That being said though, I just wanted to say Hi! :)

When I was shopping for Maddie's party stuff, I saw the cutest John Deere theme. I would've gotten it if Maddie was a boy.

I agree that doing a little construction or farm or train theme with little toys on a sheet cake would be fun. I would think you could pretty easily create a road/construction site/field with frosting. . .

Harper's cake was a butterfly this year, but the final product was so far off from what I'd pictured. . . I didn't even post it on the blog!
